Blue Springs State Park

A few years ago we celebrated New Years Day by visiting Blue Springs. This was the first time we experienced manatees – beautiful graceful creatures – I love them. The springs are warm all year round at 72 degrees, which is what attracts the manatees to visit from the St John’s River between November and March. The colder it is the more manatees you will see. When the manatees are not there it is still a fantastic place to visit and see some real Florida. There is a pioneer settlers house called Thursby House from 1872. You can canoe, snorkel and swim in the beautiful springs when the manatees are not visiting. It costs approximately $5 to take your car in. There is swimming gear and canoes to hire and a little shop where you can order freshly made subs and get momentoes. It is a really peaceful relaxing place to visit with boardwalks and many opportunities to see lots of different types of wildlife and loads of different types of fish.
