One of the most relaxing and enjoyable day trips we have taken is when we drove over to St Pete’s Beach and took the Dolphin Landings Dolphin watch cruise. It was such a different experience as you are on a sail boat out in Tampa Bay.
On the day we went with our friends we were lucky that we were the only 4 passengers so we had the whole yacht to ourselves. Our yacht was called PHOENIX – a 41′ Gulfstar sailing yacht with 2 masts that holds up to 18 passengers. It is simply magical as you glide along and then suddenly realise you have company – the wonderful thing is that the Dolphins have a choice of whether to travel with you or not and it seems that they are just as interested in seeing us as we are in seeing them.
Free water and sodas are available on the tour or you can bring your own bottle if you want something alcoholic (no glass bottles) – if you are celebrating a special occasion or something. the captain even let my hubby steer the yacht back to dock which he loved! The tour lasted about 2 hours and costs $35
Dolphin Landings don’t guarantee dolphin sightings, but they do say that there is a 99% chance that you will see dolphins and if you don’t they will gladly schedule you on another one of our sightseeing Dolphin Watch trips complimentary (subject to availability).
Other cruises are also available – see http://www.dolphinlandings.com/index.html to find out more.
