The Maitland Art Center

Described as one of America’s best examples of “fantastic architecture”, it is a lovely art center which is recognised as both a state and national historic site with a long tradition of nurturing avant-garde art.  The Art Center is one of the few surviving examples of “Mayan Revival” or fantasy architecture in the Southeast.

There is an Artists’ Village which was built in 1930s as the Research Studio where young resident guest artists could develop their talents and display their works.  Today, classes and workshops fill the small studios all year round and an annual children’s art festival is held on the grounds each Spring.

A favourite spot for weddings and private parties is the open air Garden Chapel and Mayan Courtyard.   During the Summer (May – September) the Summer Concert Series is held on the second Friday of the month at 7.00pm with Music, Food, Architecture and fun.

Celebration – Spring Art Festival – 20-21 2013

Bold and vibrant paintings, contemporary and whimsical art, life-size sculptures, photography and jewelry are among the many works of art that will be featured along the quaint brick-lined streets of Celebration Town Center when the city’s annual art festival returns April 20-21, 2013. Market Street will be transformed into a gallery style outdoor art extravaganza complete with 100 of the finest artists from thirty different states. Admission is free and open to the public.

Festival promoter Howard Alan Events, producer of many award-winning juried art fairs throughout the country and the founder of the original Celebration art show, is thrilled to return with this premier art affair. “We are very excited to return to Celebration with a top rate show and the finest artists in the country,” says Howard Alan, founder of Howard Alan Events.

The artists, juried by an independent panel of expert judges, are hand-selected from hundreds of applicants based on quality and diversity. All of their artwork is original and handmade in America. “We have a very selective jury process and choose only the finest artists providing festival-goers with an extraordinary experience defined by the sounds, colors and drama of the works of art on display and for sale,” adds Alan.

The 12th Annual Celebration Art Festival makes the arts accessible to a broad audience. Prices range from $25 hand-designed earrings to $30,000 metal sculptures. The event appeals to family and friends as a free and fun weekend activity, as well as serious art buyers looking to add to their collections.

All artists will be on site for the duration of the show, available to discuss their art and inspiration. “The art show is a great way to explore the work of many different artists in one setting,” says festival promoter Howard Alan. “You have the opportunity to meet and connect with the artist before making a purchase, which makes the investment much more meaningful and personal.”

Howard Alan Events develops and produces some of the nation’s finest juried art shows in more than 40 venues each year, many are ranked in the top 100 art fairs in the country by Sunshine Artist magazine. These shows, which attract locals and tourists alike, include the Downtown Aspen Art Festival (Aspen, CO), Beaver Creek Art Festival (Beaver Creek, CO), Chicago Tribune North Michigan Avenue Art Festival (Chicago, IL), and the Las Olas Art Fairs, (Fort Lauderdale, FL).

The Celebration Art Festival runs Saturday and Sunday, April 20 -21, 2013, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm each day and is located on Market Street in the heart of Celebration.

Celebration Exotic Car Festival

Celebration Exotic Car Festival takes place this weekend April 13-14.  This year is the 20th year it has taken place and it is in aid of children’s charity.  I read that it showcases North America’s largest collection of exotic cars, race cars and iconic Hollywood movie cars.  Set along the waterfront at Celebration where you can meet world famous chefs at the Food and Wine at Portofino event, participate in the acclaimed road rally, and more!

100% of the net proceeds are donated to charity, so if you are looking for something a little different to do this weekend why not give it a try.

Also happening in Celebration in April are the:

Celebration Art Festival – April 20-21

The Great American Pie Festival – April 27-28

Enchanted Tales with Belle, New Fantasyland, Magic Kingdom

Described as an ‘interactive story adventure featuring Belle, Lumiere and possibly even you’ – we thought we would give it a try.  As we had gone to Magic Kingdom in the evening there was only a short 10 minute wait, which took place queuing through Belle’s house.  From there we went through to Beast’s castle where the cupboard told us what was going to happen next and allocated roles for when we met Belle.  Eventually the call came and we went through into the Castle where Lumiere told us the story of how to Belle fell in love with the Beast.  Belle herself came and joined – it was really magical for all the children who then got time to meet Belle and have their photos taken with her.   It was a lovely experience and one I would recommend for those with younger children – especially those who are going through their princess years.
