February 2011, we went on holiday with my brother, his wife and daughter (then aged 8). While there they wanted to revisit the Whispering Canyon Cafe at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge Resort as they had previously stayed at the hotel and had really enjoyed it.
On arrival at the resort we checked in at the gatehouse and saw 2 deer to the side of our vehicle in the ‘wilderness’.
The Wilderness Lodge is as you would expect very rustic and full of wood. Our table was ready and we were seated straight away.
The theme of the cafe is cowboys and indians – with teepee lights, rodeo pictures, servers dressed as cowboys. Every so often they round the children up for hobby horse races round the restaurant – one of the things my niece had remembered and enjoyed.
The food was hearty and rustic – ribs, corn on the cob, chicken, prime rib. Soda came in jars and my brother was delighted to see Sam Adams on the beer menu.
We had good service and it was a real experience, it wasn’t quiet! Don’t go for a romantic couples dinner – this is not the location for that – there is no whispering at the Whispering Canyon Cafe.
Back in February 2011, on vacation with my brother and his family we decided to go and watch a shuttle launch from Cocoa Beach.
Parking wasn’t too bad – we managed to park at a meter on the roadside fairly near one of the boardwalks to the beach.
It was February but the weather was good and we had fun playing on the sand, eating a picnic while waiting with many others for the launch to take place.
Having waited several hours, bought binoculars to see the launch and a radio to hear it, we managed to almost completely miss the event by looking in the wrong direction!!
Before we travelled home we visited the massive Ron Jon Surf Shop for some essential souvenirs.
Combined with a 6 hour journey back to Orlando (it was Daytona weekend the same day and the toll road was rammed) it turned out to be a very memorable day for many reasons – we still laugh about it 6 years later and the best thing is that apart from the fuel, toll and parking it was pretty much free fun in the sun!
These were taken back in 2007 when the Mouse ear water tower and Sorcerer Hat were still in position and the Osborne Lights were the holiday lights of the season.
Sadly the Osborne Lights finished last year and we were lucky enough to view them for one last time. However, don’t be down because this year at Hollywood Studios they suspended Symphony of the Stars: A Galactic Spectacular and introduced a new entertainment – Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM! just for the holiday season.
Running from November 14th to December 31st, Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM! is a time to reminisce by watching unforgettable Disney moments combined with festive music, special effects, fireworks and even a little snow!
